Orion Health Wins Innovation Award at the 2016 CHIA Gala Awards Night

Prestigious award recognises Orion Health’s expertise in province-wide eReferral implementation

TORONTO, ON – June 8, 2016 – Orion Health, a leader in population health management and healthcare integration solutions, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the 2016 Canadian Health Informatics Award (CHIA) for ‘Innovation in the Adoption of Health Informatics’.  Announced at the CHIA Gala on June 7, 2016, Orion Health’s work with Alberta Health Services (AHS) in implementing a provincial eReferral solution was recognized for its ease-of-use, smooth adoption and positive impact on the referral process.

“We are privileged and honoured to be recognized alongside Alberta Health Services for our combined efforts in implementing an eReferral solution that has helped to dramatically improve the efficiency of Alberta’s referral system”, commented Gary Folker, Executive Vice President, Orion Health North America. “This win underscores that an integrated solution can lead to increased collaboration and communication between care practitioners, and positively impact the delivery of care.”

Building off of Alberta’s existing Netcare provincial EHR system, Orion Health worked with AHS to implement a province-wide electronic referral system. Since its launch in July of 2014, it has successfully distributed more than 15,000 referrals electronically for lung cancer, breast cancer and hip and knee joint replacement surgery. The Netcare eReferral solution also has the ability to enable virtual consultations and tracks referrals in real-time. The solution has helped to reduce wait times and increase the system’s capacity to care for patients.

This award marks Orion Health’s third CHIA win in a row. Last year, Orion Health won the award in the same category for its work with OntarioMD’s Hospital Report Manager system, and won the CHIA Corporate Citizenship award in 2014.

The annual CHIA awards are presented by Canada’s Health Informatics Association (COACH) and the Information Technology Association of Canada Health (ITAC Health), and recognize the top digital health achievements across Canada. An impartial Adjudication Committee comprised of Health Informatics experts evaluates the nominees for 11 different award categories and the Steven Huesing Scholarship.
