{"id":3467,"date":"2020-05-12T03:00:23","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T03:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orionhealth-blog.local\/?p=3467"},"modified":"2023-07-26T02:09:43","modified_gmt":"2023-07-26T02:09:43","slug":"northern-region-shared-platform-covid-19-assessment-forms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionhealth.com\/nz\/blog\/northern-region-shared-platform-covid-19-assessment-forms\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Region Shared Platform COVID-19 assessment forms"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cSomeone came into our ED last night with a cough, and just flew back from Hubei.<\/em><\/p><p><em>What\u2019s the earliest we can come up with a solution?\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>So began an email from a registrar at Middlemore\nHospital, on a Friday in February, before New Zealand had recorded its first\nconfirmed case of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within three days Orion Health had stood up a solution\nto assess and monitor suspected COVID-19 patients when they are admitted to\nhospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Northern Region Operating Model team of product\nspecialists and implementation consultants joined forces with DHB clinical\nleads and technology experts from Health Alliance NZ. Using the software\nalready installed in Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB), they\ncreated, tested and deployed two forms within the Care Pathways product. These two forms allow clinicians to conduct an initial\nassessment, and then follow up with close, on-going monitoring of the patient. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our team recognised the urgency of the problem facing\nAuckland hospitals, and, in response, worked tirelessly to implement the forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Clinical Lead for Counties Manukau and Waitemat\u0101\nDHBs, Dr Lara Hopley, the forms are an \u201cabsolute first\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nCOVID-19 assessment forms allowed every front-end clinician to easily send a\nreferral to the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) and trigger a\nCOVID-suspected alert badge; thus allowing widespread, electronic alerting to\nthe patient\u2019s status. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFront-end\nclinicians now have the ability to rapidly update COVID status. Previously,\nalerts had to be manually changed, following a conversation between clinical\ndecision-makers and administrative staff,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nbiggest difference was in the deployment of the cohort management tool.\nClinicians are now able to quickly search over all \u2018alerted\u2019 patients, their\nlocations and their test results, in order to efficiently update status. An\nimmediate and accurate communication through the entire system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another\nclinician explained the impact of the ability to immediately and accurately\ncommunicate through the entire system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis\nis 10 times better than anything we could do. It has made a world of difference\nfrom being a chaotic mess of not knowing who or where the patients were \u2013 which\nwould have generated excel spreadsheets, word documents and tonnes of emails\nand lost patients \u2013 to it all being there in one place in the clinical record,\u201d\nthey said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe can now go back in and understand the\nclinical decisions linked to the change in alert status. It\u2019s made a massive\ndifference,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now,\nwhen a patient presents with symptoms of COVID-19, they are quickly assessed\nand placed on the right pathway for them. The ARPHS has access to an overview\nof the probable and confirmed cases in hospital, and ensure they are also\ntracking them. This regional data warehouse means that CMDHB is able to\nhighlight the difference between data sources, which is crucial for reporting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a very long three days\u2019 worth of work\ngetting this over the line \u2013 and the team has kept their sense of humour the\nentire way through,\u201d said Dr Hopley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\nare truly a credit to all our organisations,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forms\nlike these are available for deployment within Care Pathways, which comprises\none of the cohort management modules within Orion Health\u2019s comprehensive Outbreak\nManagement Solution.
