Orion Health Scotland

Orion Health has a long and successful affiliation with Scotland, which first dates back to 2004, when we delivered what is now an integrated digital health and care record for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Since then our customer base has expanded significantly, to the point that by 2015, NHS Lanarkshire, Golden Jubilee National Hospital, NHS Ayrshire & Arran, NHS Dumfries & Galloway and NHS Fife were each using our Clinical Portal solution. This was used as the drive to bring together patient information from disparate sources into a single record.

These successful projects, alongside the region’s drive for integrated and person-centred health and care led Orion Health to open a new office in Glasgow in December 2014.

Scotland is a region of firsts for Orion Health implementations, and we’re now known for much more than our Clinical Portal solution. Our Order Communications, Problem List and Medicines Management solutions are now well established and delivering significant benefit to clinicians and patients in this region.

In 2017, Golden Jubilee National Hospital was the first Orion Health customer globally to go live with the Patient Portal solution. This allows a cohort of patients with congenital heart conditions to become more involved in the care they receive by accessing valuable information about their condition, and indeed share that information using their smart phones in emergency situations to ensure appropriate care is delivered.

We have also been very successful in enabling regional information sharing. In the summer of 2017, our five health board customers in the West of Scotland went fully live with a project to link their Orion Health portals together to improve cross-boundary care. The project now serves a population of over 2.2 million people and positively impacts over 10% of all elective procedures.

In 2018, on the back of this transformational project, Orion Health started working on an exciting regional portal project in the North of Scotland. This project encompasses NHS Highland, NHS Grampian, NHS Shetland and NHS Orkney, with other organisations soon to follow suit. Once live, this will mean that Orion Health technology will be enabling information sharing across health and care for the benefit of more than 75% of the Scottish population!

Scotland continues to be a hotbed of innovation in digital health and care, with many more transformational projects to improve patient outcomes, clinical workflow and organisational efficiencies underway.

What Our Customers Say

  • Portal has given me peace of mind - my medical records are on me at all times which can be accessed really quickly without the need to search for files. It is also helpful that both my wife and sister have access to my digital records in case there is a situation where I can't provide the information myself.

    John McPhie

A patient from the Scottish Highlands on the Patient Portal

  • If I am seeing a new patient, or a follow-up patient who has had investigations done, or a patient on chemotherapy, then I want to see their test results, and their scan results, and their treatment log. Now, I can do that without going in and out of the SCI stores, which is a huge benefit.
