The South Island Alliance Streamlines Care with a Modern Patient Administration System
The South Island Alliance of District Health Boards (DHBs) is creating a more people-centred health system. The Alliance enables the five DHBs in the South Island of New Zealand to work collaboratively to develop more efficient, innovative health services than they could do independently. The Alliance’s framework is based around the notion best for people, best for system. Health information systems are key enablers of this framework. The Alliance partners are working with Orion Health to deliver a range of innovative technology solutions across the region’s health system.
The geographically vast South Island has significant cross DHB migration, so the South Island Alliance identified the need for health information to follow people as they move across health systems and between services. One critical piece of the healthcare technology puzzle was a shared patient administration system.
