Lloyd Minor, the dean of the Stanford University School of Medicine, stated his affinity for precision health in <\/strong>a blog post last week<\/strong><\/a>, citing three trends that he believes irrefutably support his conviction that <\/strong>this holistic approach to medicine<\/strong><\/a> is the way of the future.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The rise of big data.<\/strong> Minor believes that efforts like the New York Genome Center\u2019s work with IBM<\/a> in the area of big data represent a significant development for precision health and its goal of extracting actionable insights from large volumes of information.<\/li>
  2. An increase in the number of <\/strong>predictive devices and preventive tests.<\/strong> The dean expects that new and upcoming gadgets and exams will help caregivers figure out exactly what patients need, and he cites Novartis\u2019 glucose-monitoring contact lens<\/a> as an example. <\/li>
  3. A newfound respect for collaboration.<\/strong> Enthusiastic about the end of silos and the dawn of sharing, Minor lauds an example of collaboration not only being embraced but leveraged<\/em> as a condition for participation in tech entrepreneur Sean Parker\u2019s $250 million Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy<\/a>. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
