Koren Cryer, VP of Global Marketing

Koren Cryer is our Vice President for Global Marketing. She has 15 years of marketing experience and has worked a range of roles in both sales and marketing. Having worked at Orion Health for 7 years, healthcare marketing is where her true passion lies.
Koren is passionate about communicating difficult concepts to a range of individuals and developing and maintaining strong relationships across the whole team at Orion Health.
Can you share with us five things you wish you knew before you started out?
There is no ‘one’ career path
In high school, I was set on one career path. I ended up studying something different at University. Then went down a completely different career path. Don’t be set in one direction and close yourself off to opportunities outside of this. There are millions of different career paths, most of which you never hear about at high school. Look at all your options, stay open to new opportunities and you could end up in a better place than you originally planned.
Embrace learning
You can learn something from every person or circumstance that comes across your path. Don’t assume you know everything or close yourself off to others opinions. Everyone’s journey is different, and you can learn from their experience. Be curious. Be open. You could learn something you never thought possible.
Create connections
Building relationships and having good communication across teams is essential. Listen more than you talk. Build rapport with individuals. Be clear in what you are trying to say. And ensure the recipient has both heard and understood you. This will help with the point below about achieving things. Remember “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” So build relationships with people and create an emotional connection.
Get things done
Failing to plan is planning to fail. It’s essential to do your research and have clear objectives about what you are trying to achieve, at both a professional and personal level. But just as important as this is the execution. It can be easy to spend all your time planning without actually achieving anything. Focus on execution of tasks. Review. Refine. And then, re-execute. You can learn a lot by just doing something.
You are capable of more than you know
Often individuals, particularly women, suffer from something called Imposter syndrome; where individuals doubt their skills and view themselves as a “fraud”. I’ve learnt that you are often capable of far more than what you think you are. So don’t be afraid to voice your opinion, take a position and value what you have to offer.
